Pulp Paper Paintings

Pulp Paper painting is an exciting aspect of papermaking in which the artist mixes natural color pigments into finely beaten natural fibers. The artist’s handmade sheet of paper acts like a canvas and the pigmented pulps become the paint. Using the fine pulp that settles on the surface creates the painting. The water in the pulp drains out, leaving the fine texture of the fibers in layers.

The artist applies varied mixed media techniques on rag and handmade paper. First an abstracted painting is created on this surface using acrylic & iridescence pigments with graphite and oil. Then imagery etched on copper plates using photo etching, aquatint, intaglio with chine colé is printed on the painting.
